1. How long does it take to get a job?
If you’ve ever tried to find a job in games or other related fields, you probably know how challenging it can be, especially in challenging markets like the ones we face today. When you’re trying to break in for the first time, it can become an even greater challenge.
Unfortunately, we don’t know any hard facts about the job hunting process.
What’s the average amount of time job seekers spend finding their first role in real-time industries? How many roles does the average job seeker apply to? How many resumes are sent? How many interviews are had?
This data does not currently exist for our industry, so we aim to change that.
Elevate has launched the State of the First Job Search in Real-Time survey! This six minute survey will help us understand the real story behind finding your first job in real-time by supplying us with tangible data about length of job hunt, number of applications submitted, interviews completed, and more.
The future of our industry begins at the start of the career pathway. Let’s do all we can to better understand this critical time in job seekers’ lives!
2. Is this survey only for people in games? What are real-time 3D industries?
While game developers are likely to be a large percentage of the participants, this survey is open to anyone from any industry that uses real-time tools like Unity or other game engines as part of their day to day work, and began doing so in 2019 or later.
Real-time industries are any industry that uses tools like Unity to build immersive and interactive experiences for their users. These experiences don’t require precomputation ahead of time or waiting for rendering processes to complete. Instead, these experiences unfold in real time, allowing users to interact dynamically with the environment, characters, or objects instantaneously.
While gaming is the best known industry for using real-time tools today, over the last decade many new industries have begun to embrace real-time tools to aid in experiences such as design, learning and training, visualization, and more.
Some of the industries that have embraced real-time 3D solutions include the following:
- Architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC)
- Automotive and transportation
- Manufacturing
- Energy
- Government and aerospace
- Retail and commerce
3. Why is the survey only for people who started working in this field in 2019 or later?
Real-time industries rapidly evolve in short periods of time, and this extends out into hiring practices as well. By limiting the survey to participants who started working in this space over the last five years, we’ll have a clear picture of current trends as well as a snapshot of what job hunting was like directly before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a huge impact on real-time industry hiring practices.
4. Take the survey!
If you started working in an industry using real-time 3D tools for the first time in 2019 or later, we want to hear from you!
In order to produce the best possible results for the state of the job search report, we need as many respondents as possible. If you know other people who would qualify to take the survey, please share it with them!
5. How will this data be used?
The results of this survey will be compiled into a State of the First Job Search report, which will be made available publicly for free. We hope that this information will be used to help improve the job preparation and search process for everyone in our industry. When we have real data, we can begin to make real change.
