Unity allows you to create simple animations using a standard set of tools. In this tutorial, you'll use Unity's keyframes, Playhead, Animation Timeline, and Animation Curves to create simple animations.

This project will take us through the process of reusing Animation Clips, both imported and custom. We will also review how to retarget imported animation clips on different biped, humanoid models. One of the most powerful features of Mecanim is retargeting of humanoid animations. This means that with relative ease, you can apply the same set of animations to various character models. Keep in mind that retargeting is only possible for humanoid models, where an Avatar has been configured, because this gives us a correspondence between the models’ bone structure. About this learning experience This project is a standalone learning experience which uses content developed for the Creative Core pathway. You’ll find everything you need to get started with animation in Unity, but you may also notice references to the guided learning journey for that pathway. In this workflow, you’ll learn about baking animation. Baking is a necessary step to be able to export your animations as FBX. This is because control rigs contain Maya specific nodes that are not compatible with FBX. Therefore we must bake our animation onto just the nodes that are compatible with FBX: joints and blendshapes.
