Unity’s audio system imports most standard audio file formats. It allows you to mix and master in real time, and it can replicate 3D spatial sound effects like echo, object movement (like the sound of a fast-moving car), and reverb. In this tutorial, you'll prepare in import audio files, and add Audio Source and Audio Listener components to your project.

This segment of the Unity Tanks project demonstrates how to balance the audio implemented in the game, creating a dynamic mix where our sound effects duck the volume of our music.

Working with audio files is as straightforward as dragging and dropping the files into the Editor and selecting the tools you need to compose a sequence of audio tracks that will bring your scene alive. In this tutorial, you'll add and configure audio using Timeline.

Audio is one of the most overlooked aspects of interactive development, but it’s also one of the first things that can disrupt a user’s immersion if it’s done poorly — or worse, completely forgotten about. In this mission, you will learn how to implement audio effects in Unity by creating a soundscape for an outdoor scene. You’ll create ambient audio effects, trigger sounds with events, and modify sounds with special effects. By the end of this mission, you’ll be able to: Implement audio in Unity. Produce customized results by correctly configuring audio in a scene. Create interactive experiences by synthesizing audio experience design principles. Refine existing audio in a Unity project. Solve accessibility challenges in an audio design. About this learning experience This project is a standalone learning experience which uses content developed for the Creative Core pathway. You’ll find everything you need to get started with audio in Unity, but you may also notice references to the guided learning journey for that pathway. If you decide that you’d like to complete the whole Creative Core pathway, you can start at any time. You’ll receive credit for any tutorials that you have already completed when you do.

This session covers how you can use both audio sources and spatial audio in your work. You will learn how to use the audio mixer and audio effects, as well as how to time and sequence audio tracks in the Timeline.

Audio Reverb Zones add soundscape realism to your Scene by controlling how a 3D environment’s space may affect the qualities of sound reverberating or echoing off of surfaces. Consider a game character’s footsteps. The sound effect of the footsteps would vary depending on the environment. Audio resonating in an open spacious environment has properties of sound that will change upon entering an enclosed corridor. Audio Reverb Zones address these types of changing sound environments.
