Laser burn trail on wood, using the Particle System
This laser burn effect was achieved using a Particle System on a moving Game Object (the grey smoke is another Particle System). Key characteristics : (screenshot attached with the Particle System settings used, for reference) Using the Default Particle System Material, colored in black with a touch of transparency. Start Speed to 0 so every particle stays where it's generated. Emitter shape set to a circle with low radius. Simulation Space set to "World", so the older particles stay in the same place. Color over lifetime uses a fade from Alpha 255 to Alpha 0, allowing the older particles to disappear smoothly. There's a lot more tweaking that can be done, but I was surprised of how quickly I could achieve this effect thanks to this week's live session!
