Unity allows you to create simple animations using a standard set of tools. In this tutorial, you'll use Unity's keyframes, Playhead, Animation Timeline, and Animation Curves to create simple animations.

This project will take us through the process of reusing Animation Clips, both imported and custom. We will also review how to retarget imported animation clips on different biped, humanoid models. One of the most powerful features of Mecanim is retargeting of humanoid animations. This means that with relative ease, you can apply the same set of animations to various character models. Keep in mind that retargeting is only possible for humanoid models, where an Avatar has been configured, because this gives us a correspondence between the models’ bone structure. Continue on to learn about animation re-using and re-targeting, in the context of humanoid models.

In this mission, you will learn how to create animations in the Unity editor and how to configure animations imported from an external program. You’ll apply these concepts to add animation to objects and characters in your scenes, and even control when the animation gets played. By the end of this mission, you’ll be able to: Describe the relationship between different animation components. Create simple keyframed 3D animation sequences. Describe key components of an animator controller. Configure Animation Clips imported from digital content creation (DCC) software or the Asset Store for use in a project. Configure a humanoid rig for use with the Humanoid Animation system. About this learning experience This project is a standalone learning experience which uses content developed for the Creative Core pathway. You’ll find everything you need to get started with animation in Unity, but you may also notice references to the guided learning journey for that pathway. If you decide that you’d like to complete the whole Creative Core pathway, you can start at any time. You’ll receive credit for any tutorials that you have already completed when you do.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up animation clips in Unity after they have been imported from an external application, such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender, via an FBX file.

In the Particle System, you can use the Texture Sheet Animation module to select images for the Particle System to use in an animated effect. In this workflow, we’ll set up a Texture Sheet animation to randomly spawn different star images on the particles in a single emitter.

Creating animation rigs is a time consuming process and sometimes it takes several people to create a rig that meets all of the needs of a project. With Unity’s Animation Rigging tools, the amount of time and manpower is reduced because of the flexibility and robustness of these tools.

In this course, you'll explore the fundamentals of Unity’s 3D animation systems. You will: Review the core concepts for the animation systems in Unity Connect those core concepts to the functionality of the Unity Editor Apply your learning through creating and modifying simple animations Review key principles of scripting for animation By the end of this course, you'll be able to: Confidently use Unity's 3D animation systems to create basic in-game (or in-app) animations for your own projects Begin to create custom animation scripts, if you have relevant C# scripting experience for Unity. Who is this course for? This course is for intermediate and confident beginner users of Unity. It will help you develop your understanding of the animation systems in Unity, but will be of limited use to learners who want to create cinematic animations for media experiences or game cutscenes. To get the most out of the course, you’ll need basic coding experience in Unity. This will help inform your understanding of the complexity of different animations scripting scenarios.
