Now it’s time to apply what you have learned about VFX to your guided project!
Languages available:
1. Overview
Last time, you brought your guided project scene to life using animation.
Visual effects (VFX) allow you to add even more life to your scene, ranging from background movement to simulations and even magic.
In this tutorial you’ll add VFX to your guided project.
2. Review the design document requirements
Before you resume work on your project, remind yourself of the project requirements specific to visual effects:
1. Open the design document for the project you selected:
2. In the Project Specifications section of the design document, locate the VFX requirements.
3. Apply what you learned in your project
You’re now ready to apply your new skills in order to meet the requirements outlined in your design document.
In the following steps, you’ll find some project-specific considerations and hints. Go to the section that is relevant to your selected project:
- Alien video game shop → Step 4
- Beachside town → Step 5
- Architectural rendering → Step 6
4. Alien video games shop requirements
Shooting stars
There’s
not much to do in space, but at least there are some great views! Use particles to add some shooting stars outside of the window.
Steam from a vent
All those life support systems generate a lot of heat. Add some steam coming from the vent.
5. Beachside town requirements
Fire pit on the beach
There’s nothing like a beach party! Create a fire on the beach for our characters.
Smoke from a chimney
Add some smoke coming out of one of the chimneys.
6. Architectural rendering requirements
Dust particles
No-one wants a dirty home, but dust particles are part of life. Use particle effects to add some dust particles to the air.
Fireflies!
Bring some whimsical magic to this architecture by adding fireflies on the grass patch outside.
7. Next steps
Congratulations! You’ve completed the VFX mission. Next, you’ll learn about cameras and then apply this new knowledge to your own project.
