1. Course Overview

Welcome to Create with VR for Educators!

In the coming weeks, you'll learn more about what it takes to develop VR experiences in Unity and how to equip students with the skills and experience that will enable them to be the creators of tomorrow. The course provides training, support, community, and resources for educators to successfully teach VR development with Unity, the industry-leading interactive design and development tool.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Recognize the potential of VR across industries and identify real-world career opportunities for students with these skills.
  • Gain a foundational knowledge of VR development in Unity by creating your own projects.
  • Identify best practices and approaches for teaching Unity.
  • Access resources such as a syllabus, curriculum, and lesson plans to bring VR development into your classroom, program, or curricula.

Course Format

Webinars

  • A series of professional development webinars.
  • Led by Mark Suter (Elida High School), Debbie Boscombe (Diman High School) and special guests, these sessions include tools, tips, and strategies to bring VR development into the classroom.
  • A series of pre-recorded office hours.
  • These sessions, led by expert educators, offer support for educators with course projects and answer questions related to learning and teaching VR in the classroom.

Self-Paced Learning

  • ~5 hours of self-paced learning and hands-on projects included in Unity’s new Create with VR course.
  • Note: This course does not include the Personal Project Labs available in the full Create with VR course. We have excluded these tutorials to enable educators to complete the course in under 30 hours.

See the course FAQ for more information.

2. Accessing Educator Resources

Unity Learn is your free library of hundreds of projects, tutorials, and courses that you can use to enrich your course curriculum. Each resource on Unity Learn includes free assets and step-by-step instruction for creating Unity projects.

Many Unity Learn resources include quizzes, challenges, and personal project guidance that educators use to assess student learning. Some resources, like Create with VR and others found in the Educator Hub, include a range of teacher materials to make planning for teaching Unity simple.

These resources can be found in the For Educators tab on the main course page.

3. Unity Educator Plan

Designed for post-secondary and K-12 educators at accredited academic institutions teaching Unity in the classroom, the Unity Educator plan provides you with free access to the same real-time 3D development tools used by professionals to support your students.

Included in this plan are Unity Pro, cloud-based collaboration, cloud build, free Unity assets, and more.

4. Learn from the Unity Teach community

One of the great aspects of teaching Unity is that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel! If you want help and guidance on any aspect of teaching Unity, make sure you join the Unity Teach Community on Facebook.

Our Unity Teach Community is a global professional learning community for educators who teach Unity at all education levels and across a range of subject areas. The community leads live webinars, shares teaching and learning resources, and hosts helpful discussions around best practices.

5. Challenge Solutions

Challenges are designed to test your knowledge and improve problem-solving skills, and while it’s encouraged that you complete them on your own, some of the tasks can prove to be quite tricky!

Luckily our teaching ambassador, Mark Suter, has filmed a walkthrough for each challenge to help you complete it if you get stuck. You can find a library of his video tutorials by clicking here.

6. Tips to Get Started

We know that creating with and teaching VR can, at first, feel intimidating. But you're not alone! Hear from fellow educators on tips to get started successfully.
