1. Evaluate an XR Applicaiton

Choose an existing XR application to experience and evaluate using the template below. This could be any VR, AR, or MR application for any platform. It does not matter if it is popular or critically acclaimed - evaluating any application should yield valuable insights.

Spend at least 10 minutes interacting with the application and write up your responses to the prompts below. This exercise will help you understand what makes applications successful and will inform your development and design decision when you are ready to create your own XR application.

2. What to evaluate for?

  • Application name and platform - Provide the name of the application and the platform that you reviewed it on.

  • Elevator Pitch - Describe the application in 1-2 sentences.

  • Target Audience - Who do you think this application is made for? Is it successful in serving that user or audience?

  • XR Implementation - Is the application an example of XR, AR, or MR? If VR, is it 6DOF (room-scale) or 3DOF (seated)? If AR or MR, is it handheld (like and iPhone app) or wearable (like Hololens)? How does the application take advantage of the specific capabilities of this platform?

  • Supporting Technologies - What other technologies are used by the application (e.g. GPS, haptic feedback, etc.), and why are they important?

  • Application Strengths - What are some of the application’s strengths?

  • Areas for Improvement - What would you do to improve the application?
