In this creative challenge, you’ll reshoot the action in the Scene with your own cinematic shot design.
Languages available:
1. Challenge
In Unit 5 we had you recreate our camera sequence. In this creative challenge, it’s your turn to be the cinematographer and film the scene.
Before you begin, plan your shot sequence by considering how you can add emphasis to the action with your camera movements. For cinematic inspiration, check out the movie 1917 or Alfred Hitchcock’s film Vertigo, or look up the Goodfellas “going into the restaurant” sequence. Watch for how the cameras follow the action in the story and notice how the cuts between shots add to the story, reveal the motivations of the characters, and build suspense. You may also want to make a simple sketch storyboard to pre-visualize your camera shots.
You’ll want to create your new camera sequence in the Unit5_StarterFiles project, in the Unit5CreativeChallenge Scene. Your new camera sequence should include:
- At least three Virtual Camera shots.
- At least one blended shot between two Virtual Cameras.
For an additional challenge:
- See if you can create a boom, truck, or dolly camera movement using two blended cameras.
- Add animated movement to one of your cameras.
- Try to create a rack focus between two Virtual Cameras that are set to different depths of field and then blended.
- Film the characters from a different perspective (this may require you to fill in parts of the set with city buildings).
2. Submission
Once you’ve completed your project, use the Recorder to create a daily in .mp4 format of your new shot sequence and upload it to our public gallery. If you are unable to submit a screenshot in this step, please make sure you are signed into Learn with your Unity ID.
