Assessing your job readiness

In this tutorial, you will assess your self on what skills you've learned and what you still need to learn and practice, and start the job readiness preparation process.

Languages available:

1. Putting it all together

Congratulations on making it through the Create with Code course and learning how to program with C#. Throughout the course you were introduced to key concepts within the QA process and you applied them to your the project you built.

As was noted throughout the pathway, if you want to do QA professional you will be QA'ing projects by other developers and not QA'ing your own work. This difference is explained well by Unity's Education Team QA Analyst, Jacek Mackiewicz, during a Create with Code live session from May 2020.

2. Self-Assessment

If you think back to the beginning of the pathway, while there are many kinds of QA Tester roles, common across most roles are these primary responsibilities:

  • Checking new software products, such as those for gaming systems or mobile applications, for defects or issues.
  • Running various tests on software to ensure it meets all standards and guidelines and is ready to be marketed to consumers.
  • Identifying issues and run debugging programs as needed.
  • Generating reports, work with software developers to correct issues, and upgrade databases as required.

And the traits of a good QA Tester are:

  • Obsessive attention to detail and good recall.
  • Know the scope and use documentation.
  • Communication, Communication, Communication.
  • Project Management Tool.
  • Prioritization is critical.

Considering what you just learned and practiced throughout this pathway and now reviewing the skills and traits for what it takes to be a successful QA Tester take some time to think about areas you still need to research and practice so you are job interview ready.

3. Keep practicing

There are many ways to keep practicing your QA skills. Before you start applying to jobs we highly recommend that you use the Websites to Practice Testing resources put together by our friends at the Ministry of Testing and really begin to practice what you've learned about QA on projects you were not involved in developing.

As you can tell we think the Ministry of Testing's content for Software Testers is great and we highly recommend you also check out the following resources:
