Submit your independent or guided project

In this final Creative Core assessment you will submit your independent or guided project and upon submission earn your shareable Creative Core badge.

By the end of this tutorial, you'll be able to demonstrate your new skills from each domain in the Creative Core pathway.

Languages available:

1. Overview

In order to officially complete and receive a badge for this pathway, you need to submit either your guided or independent project. Either one of these projects will verify that you have mastered the Creative Core.

2. Submission criteria review

As you prepare to submit your project and complete the pathway, review the criteria for your choice of submission project again.

Independent project submissions

Your independent project should:

  • Be based on an enhanced prototype taken beyond the greybox stage. It can be a walking simulator created using the resources provided (for those without coding experience) or a concept of your choice that you have the technical skills to create.
  • Utilize each of Unity’s core creative systems that are appropriate for the concept to showcase your skills and ability to apply them in a specific practical context. Important: In almost all cases, every mission in the Creative Core pathway will be applicable to your project to a certain extent. Remember, this is an opportunity to showcase what you can do!
  • Achieve a baseline level of visual polish through effective use of shaders and materials, lighting, VFX, and post-processing effects.
  • Be tested to ensure that you have achieved your design goals for the independent project and the critical interactions and features are functioning as expected.

You can also review the domain-specific guidance for this submission before continuing, if you need to.

Guided project submissions

Your independent project is the ideal submission to demonstrate your learning throughout this learning pathway, and we recommend using it for this purpose.

However, we understand that some people may prefer not to submit this project on Unity Learn. If you prefer, you can use the guided project that you completed while working through the Creative Core pathway to meet the requirements for the final submission and complete the pathway.

If you are submitting your guided project, be sure to review the specific criteria for your chosen brief. Your project should include everything outlined in the Project Requirements section of the design document.

For your convenience, here are links to those design documents again:

3. Test and finalize your project

In the prototyping project, you were asked to playtest your project. If you have continued refining and improving your project since then, we recommend testing it again. If you are submitting your guided project, make sure you playtest that too.

Whichever project you decide to submit here, make sure to plan some time to make any changes you might identify as a result of the user feedback you collect. When you’re ready to continue, review your project one more time to make sure it is ready to build and publish.

4. Create a playable build

You need to create a build that others can experience online to submit your independent or guided project— a WebGL build is the best fit for that.

If you need to recap this process, review Getting started with Unity Web. You can publish your submission on Unity Play or other third-party hosting platforms.

5. Continue your Creative Core journey

You have just published an interactive experience that’s Made with Unity — congratulations!

In the next step, you’ll submit your independent or guided project to complete this pathway. Once you do that and complete this tutorial, you will earn your Creative Core pathway badge. You should be incredibly proud of getting to this point. You now have the core skills in all of the major creative domains for creating experiences with Unity.

The Creative Core badge is sharable on LinkedIn or other social media platforms. Add it to your portfolio, your email signature, and your resume. Why not share your badge and let the world know what you have accomplished?

Goodbye from the Creative Core team

A lot of different people worked on making this experience for you. We all hope that you’ve enjoyed it and we can’t wait to hear about what you create.

Congratulations again and keep on creating!

6. Submit your project

To complete this Mission and earn your Creative Core badge, please submit your guided or independent project. Sharing is optional but it’s a great way to get feedback from your fellow learners!

Important: This submission is required to complete the Creative Core pathway and receive your badge.

To submit your project:

1. Review the specific guidance for this submission (above) and check your project to make sure that you have achieved the challenge criteria. Remember, there’s no deadline on submissions; you can take the time that you need to do this.

2. Check your published build one final time.

3. Add the link to your hosted WebGL build to the submission form at the bottom of this step.

4. Add a submission title and description. If you have additional details to share about your process or the project that you have created, you can share them in the description.

5. Set who can view your submission:

  • Public: Anyone who views this tutorial.
  • Private: Just you.

6. Select Save and preview submission.

7. Check your submission preview and then complete the CAPTCHA test and select Submit and continue.

The Windmill Quest

The Windmill Quest

The Windmill Quest is a short quest-based project designed to demonstrate core technical proficiency in the Unity Engine. Players assume the role of a blacksmith tasked with fixing the village windmill. The scene is a showcase of: Dynamic Visuals: Baked & real-time lighting, custom materials, shaders, and VFX Graph/Particle Systems. Atmosphere & Polish: Advanced Post-Processing, custom animations (NPC/Mixamo & environment), and integrated audio clips/BGM. Player Interaction: Custom UI for NPC dialogues and quest hints. All elements utilize assets from the Unity Asset Store, Mixamo for character animations, and Google Fonts. * Unfortunately VFX graph effects (Fire flies & forging effect ) can't see in WebGL build because VFX graph don't support WebGL

My submission is also a prototype for my game Grabby Space Marine that I have been working on in my free time. This is one of the concepts for an area in the game that I sketched out a while ago and roughly brought to life here. In GSB you are crash landed on a planet you were supposed to be investigating, finding abandoned laboratories on this foreign planet and trying to find a way back. Apart from the requirements I tried to dive a bit deeper and implement a few things like gameplay mechanics and make my own 3D models. The only thing not made by me are the grate textures, the humanoid character model and the mushroom Meshes. As for critique I would love to have some about the composition of it all. I am aware of a few standouts, namely the UI and some of the models / textures clashing since they were imported, but I am really interested in how I could have better implemented the game design and layout of it all as well as composition especially of colours and visual effects.

Independent Project - Capymaze

Independent Project - Capymaze

This is the independent project to conclude the Creative Core program. It's a third-person 3D game where a capybara must find its way out of a maze. Due to time constraints, the scope of the project was limited to meet the requirements, leaving out some basic improvements I already have in mind (such as a dust particle effect when walking, an inventory system to add different game mechanics, sound effects, volumetric lights, etc.). In fact, this will be the basis for my first game, so from here, I'll build a vertical slice of what I have in mind.
