In this tutorial, you’ll:
- Review the role of Unity Hub in creating and managing projects.
- Explore the sections of the Hub interface.
- Understand ways you can use the Hub in managing your projects.
Languages available:
1. Overview
The Unity Hub is a standalone application that you’ll use to create, download and manage both Unity projects and specific installations of Unity. This tutorial is an orientation to the Hub.
2. Sections of the Hub
Let’s start by reviewing the different sections of the Hub.

Projects tab
The Projects tab is the default view when you open the Unity Hub. This is where you can manage your current projects or create a new one.
Learn tab
Use the Learn tab to download the associated Unity projects for learning content directly from the Hub.
Community tab
The Community tab is a quick reference resource that lists various places you can engage and connect with the wider Unity community.
Installs tab
The Installs tab is where you can add and configure installations of different Unity versions on your computer.
Hub preferences and account settings
There are two different settings options at the top right of the window:
- Selecting the cog icon opens your Preference settings for the Unity Hub.
- Selecting your initials opens an account menu for your Unity ID.
3. The role of the Hub
The Hub collects all the basic Unity install and project organization tools you need in one place.
Project creation and management
Every time you create a new Unity project, you’ll do this through the Hub. But what if you’ve downloaded a Unity project a friend or colleague has shared? No problem — you can add any Unity projects on your computer to the Hub, and if necessary install the required version to open them.
Tracking Unity versions
Sometimes you might need to install multiple versions of Unity. In the Installs panel, you’ll be able to manage the installs and add any necessary modules for a specific project. In the Projects panel, you can review the version associated with each separate Unity project. You’ll explore this in detail in an upcoming tutorial.
Engaging with the community
You can also use the Hub as a gateway to learning content and community engagement in the wider Unity ecosystem.
Note: The Hub is not used for version control.
4. Next steps
In this tutorial, you’ve reviewed the functionality of the Unity Hub at a high level. Next, you’ll learn more about the different Unity versions available and how to choose the right one for your project.
