In this creative challenge, you will use your new pre-visualization skills to create a cityscape.
Languages available:
1. Challenge: Create a Cityscape
Create a cityscape of your own design using only primitives, Prefabs, and ProBuilder. Use your knowledge of Materials and lighting to give your city a unique look.
For inspiration, find some reference images of towns or cities that you think have unique architectural shapes. Our city was intended to be “sci-fi” with Brutalist-style architecture, but you might choose to make yours completely different. Do some research on architecturally unique locations — for example, Santorini, Greece, with its Mediterranean buildings; Annecy, France, with its neoclassical architecture; or even Hong Kong with its dense, tall highrises.
Begin your pre-vis work by filling in the environment with simple building shapes. Use a few different configurations and sizes that repeat in the Scene. Once you’ve filled in the space, work on adding simple details to the buildings in the foreground.
Basic building shapes, simple modeling, and creativity are all you need to construct a unique location. When you add in Materials in a variety of colors that match your vision, and adjust the Directional Light, your cityscape will start to come to life.
Your project should include:
- At least five unique building shapes in different sizes
- A background, middleground, and foreground
- At least five Materials for building color
- An adjusted rotation and color of the Directional Light
2. Submission
Once you’ve completed your project, take a screenshot and share it in our public gallery. If you are unable to submit a screenshot in this step, please make sure you are signed into Learn with your Unity ID.
