Particles are used extensively for effects in interactive applications. A Particle System creates dozens or even hundreds of particles, which are small images that have a direction, a speed, a lifetime, a color and lots of other properties. By playing with all those parameters, the particles can collectively create effects like smoke, sparks or even fire.
