Unit 4 - Creative Challenge

In Unit 4, we taught you all the basics you need to get started creating animations in Unity. This creative challenge will give you a chance to have some fun and try out your new skills.

Before you actually start animating, you need to consider your story and what you want your characters to do. You’ll want your story to be fairly simple as your animation is only 10-15 seconds. You’ll also need to consider how much time you have to complete this challenge, because animation can be time intensive. You may also want to make a simple sketch storyboard to pre-visualize your animation.

You’ll want to create your animation in the Unit4_StarterFiles project, in the Unit4CreativeChallenge Scene. Your animation should include:

• A master Timeline:
  • With the Unit4CreativeChallenge Scene open, go to Project > Timeline.
  • Name the new Timeline CCMasterTimeline and pull it into the Hierarchy.
• Add at least one animated character, either Generic or Humanoid.
• Add at least two animated objects (for example, vehicles in flight).
• Try to keep the action in your Scene simple as you learn to use Unity. Some ideas:
  • A busy city Scene with traffic and pedestrians walking
  • Pedestrians running down the street
  • A character on a skateboard flying down the street
• Your animation should be at least 10-15 seconds long, but no longer than 20-30 seconds.
• Keep the GameView camera in a simple wide shot.

For an extra challenge, try importing Humanoid Animation Clips from Miximo or from a motion capture library like Carnegie Mellon University’s Graphics Lab Motion Capture Database (make sure to follow their copyright/fair use terms).

Once you’ve completed your project, use the Recorder to create a daily in .mp4 format of your animation and upload it to our public gallery. If you are unable to submit a screenshot in this step, please make sure you are signed into Learn with your Unity ID.
