Unity’s Tilemap system makes it easy to create and iterate level design cycles within Unity. It allows artists and designers to rapidly prototype when building 2D game worlds. In this tutorial, you'll create a Tilemap and explore the Tilemap system including Tilemap settings, and you'll use the Tile Palette to edit your Tilemap.

In this tutorial, you’ll create a work with tilesets to create a full tilemap for your game. By the end of this tutorial, you’ll be able to do the following: Explain what a tileset is. Adjust an existing tileset. Paint your game tilemap.

In addition to Square and Rectangular Tilemaps, Unity can also create Hexagonal and Isometric Tilemaps.

This is a video version of the written 2D Game Kit Walkthrough. In this live session with guest host Aurore Dimopoulos, we will explore the 2D Game Kit project from Unity Technologies. 2D Game Kit is designed to allow new users to explore working in Unity and making games without first learning how to code in a friendly drag and drop environment. The kit consists of a vertical slice of a 2D platformer game complete with art, sound and interactive behavior to explore.

In addition to square and rectangular tile shapes, Unity can also create hexagonal and isometric tile maps. In this tutorial, you'll experiment with hexagonal and isometric shapes, and learn how to configure their size, swizzle, and position.

This guide will walk you through setting up an empty Scene to start creating a new level with the Game Kit. This will walk you through some of the fundamentals used in this Kit to create gameplay. The Kit comes with a premade game, which contains examples of every part of the Kit in use if you get stuck for ideas. If you're already familiar with the Kit, and need some quick information, take a look at the reference guide and advanced topics this can also be found in the Documentation folder within the project.

The best way to use this document is like a reference guide, searching by component or setting you want to know more about. Use the navigation bars to find the section you need. The Explorer example game included in this project uses all the components we provided for gameplay.
