When you wish to make a simple, basic animation of an object within your scene, changing its position, size, or simply rotating it can all be done easily through the Timeline Editor window using keyframe animation. In this tutorial, you'll create a basic animation by recording the changing properties of a GameObject as keyframes in Timeline.

Sprite Animations are animation clips that are created for 2D assets. There are various ways to create Sprite Animations. One way is to create them from a Sprite Sheet, a collection of Sprites arranged in a grid. The Sprites are then compiled into an Animation Clip that will play each Sprite in order to create the animation, much like a flipbook. Sprite Animations can also be created by using keyframe animation in Unity, via the Animation window.

This project will take us through the process of reusing Animation Clips, both imported and custom. We will also review how to retarget imported animation clips on different biped, humanoid models. One of the most powerful features of Mecanim is retargeting of humanoid animations. This means that with relative ease, you can apply the same set of animations to various character models. Keep in mind that retargeting is only possible for humanoid models, where an Avatar has been configured, because this gives us a correspondence between the models’ bone structure. Configure a humanoid rig for use with the Humanoid Animation system. About this learning experience This project is a standalone learning experience which uses content developed for the Creative Core pathway. You’ll find everything you need to get started with animation in Unity, but you may also notice references to the guided learning journey for that pathway. In the Particle System, you can use the Texture Sheet Animation module to select images for the Particle System to use in an animated effect. In this workflow, we’ll set up a Texture Sheet animation to randomly spawn different star images on the particles in a single emitter.

In this workflow, you’ll learn about baking animation. Baking is a necessary step to be able to export your animations as FBX. This is because control rigs contain Maya specific nodes that are not compatible with FBX. Therefore we must bake our animation onto just the nodes that are compatible with FBX: joints and blendshapes.

In the Timeline Editor window, you can create cutscenes and animations easily and effectively. In this tutorial, you'll manage your animation and component clips, and position them in Timeline to create a cutscene.
